Graphics And Stuff

      This is the most fun of web building.  Graphics liven up a boring site, and make it fun to visit again and again.  The best part is how easy it is to capture a photo or graphic. For those who don't know, all you have to do is right click on a graphic, and save it to your computer. It's that simple.  There are thousands of free sites that offer stacks of images and useful things.  Some sites want you to register, or subscribe, but there are enough free ones out there to keep you busy for the rest of your life!

     The first thing I would like to teach you is that you should never "link" to an image that is on someone else's web site (without their permission.)  When you do that, you are using their bandwidth, and when too many people do that, it can shut their site down.  So please just right click on it and take it with you. 

     Graphics do slow down the loading of the web page for the viewer.   Keep your photos small and use animated graphics sparingly.  There are sites that will "optimize" or "crunch" your images.  They reduce the file size, so the page will load faster.  Reduce your gif image file size by visiting GifWorks (open file then optimize by reducing colors). My "Free Downloads" page has free programs to optimize your jpeg images. 

     The Three most useful things are "web backgrounds", "bars", and "animated images".  These will either be of the .jpg or .gif format.  Photos are generally .jpg, and animated items are generally .gif.  Most sites where you can build for free only allow those two file formats to be uploaded.  Click on any item below to get started.
